The unprecedented speed and increasing complexity of global social transition exceeds the understanding, national policies and the expertise of prevailing theories among the academics, strategists and diplomats at the local, national and global level. Without a deeper understanding of the forces at play, it is difficult to frame and implement effective responses.
WAAS@65 charted the interwoven symptoms and consequences of global turbulence – in governance, economic inequality, peace and security, education, science and technology, climate and ecology, and culture – and identified their root causes and deep drivers. The conference also identified a number of high potential solutions to address the identified root causes of the turbulence which merit in-depth examination and development in order to render them into operable practical strategies.
This year’s WAAS@66 Summit builds directly on these findings to explore concrete, integrated solutions for global turbulence. Its objective is to transform the growing awareness of causes and solutions into practical strategies that can lead to action. The conference will be organised across three one-day civilizational themes – Peace, Prosperity, and Freedom – and four structural streams: scale of change, its global nature, human consciousness and societal transformation, knowledge and capacity enablers. The fourth day will close with a general assembly of the members of the World Academy.
