Vision For a Global Peace Offensive
October, 2024

A Global Hub for the Vision of World Peace

In a world facing a growing number of crises, traditional diplomacy is often no longer sufficient. The Global Peace Offensive Center will combine education, research, art, and innovation to develop concrete pathways to peacefully resolve conflicts. It will serve as a platform for dialogue, exchange of ideas, and sustainable solutions on local, regional, and global levels.

The center, located in Maribor, Slovenia, was inaugurated on 26 September, 2025. During the ceremony, the partners signed the official founding charter, formally establishing the Center as a key global platform for dialogue and cooperation. Signatories were: Garry Jacobs, President of the World Academy of Art and Science; Prof. Dr. Klaus Mainzer, President of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts; and Prof. Dr. Ludvik Toplak, Rector of Alma Mater Europaea University.

The emblem of the Global Peace Offensive Center unites the symbols of its three founding institutions. The globe from the World Academy’s logo represents the global approach to solving challenges, the lily from EASA’s emblem — also adopted by Alma Mater — symbolizes beauty, justice, and stability and the blue color, present in all three logos, stands for trust, truth, and sustainability.

“Peace doesn’t happen by itself… Let us unite and call attention to the social responsibility of political and economic decision-makers.”

Peace Offensive as Inclusive Civic Diplomacy

“The Peace Offensive represents a dialogue-based, inclusive, and proactive approach to establishing peace,” says Donato Kiniger, Vice President of the World Academy of Art and Science. “It is rooted in citizen diplomacy, focused on the prevention and management of conflicts. The time has come to counter growing political polarization and violence with the tools of cultural, scientific, and educational diplomacy. Our approach will be problem-specific, using simple, fast, and adaptable methods to address challenges. Our key target groups are youth and emerging leaders, with whom we aim to foster intergenerational and intercultural connections.”

A Vision Beyond Borders

“The establishment of the Global Peace Offensive Center goes beyond local and national boundaries,” says Prof. Dr. Ludvik Toplak, Rector of Alma Mater Europaea University. “The mission of us founders is a shared vision of promoting peace and sustainable development. The conflicts threatening humanity today demand new approaches, where science, art, and technology become tools of cultural and scientific diplomacy. We invite scientists, artists, institutions, and religious leaders to join forces and highlight the social responsibility of political and economic decision-makers. Peace does not happen by itself — we must build it actively with strength, organization, and a strategic approach.”

Knowledge for the Benefit of Humanity

“The Peace Offensive is a scientific and diplomatic initiative aimed at addressing uncertainty, danger, instability, extremism, violence, and wars spreading across the globe,” says Garry Jacobs, President of the World Academy of Art and Science. “Its mission is to build the foundations for positive peace, trust, and human security through practical actions that people can genuinely see and feel in their everyday lives. The World Academy of Art and Science was founded to share knowledge for the benefit of humanity — knowledge that helps us address the root causes of instability. The Peace Offensive continues this mission.”

The Interdisciplinary Role of Science in Peacebuilding

“The European Academy of Sciences and Arts brings together broad expertise from various fields,” says Prof. Dr. Klaus Mainzer, President of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. “Through this diversity, we can offer valuable perspectives in the search for global peace. In the future, scientists will play a key role in analyzing conflicts worldwide, as solving them requires an interdisciplinary approach — something inherent to our Academy. At the same time, we recognize that scientific analysis alone is not enough. A will for peace is needed — a commitment that concerns all people, not just academics. This is precisely where our Academy aims to contribute.”
