World Academy of Art and Science
Presentation and Discussion of the HS4A Campaign
October 11, 2022
2.30 to 5 pm CET / 3.30 to 6 pm EET
The WAAS Board of Trustees is pleased to invite members of the Academy to participate in a special meeting for presentation of the HS4A Campaign on Human Security for All. HS4A is a joint project of the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security and the World Academy of Art & Science.
The objective of the meeting is to identify opportunities for WAAS Fellows and Partner organizations to get involved and contribute to the campaign.
This one-year campaign will reach out to decision-makers, institutions and the general public around the world to promote a comprehensive, integrated, person-centered approach to enhance the security, human rights and sustainable development of people everywhere. WAAS will be collaborating on the campaign with an expanding network of organizations around the world involving UN agencies, national parliaments, universities, academies, research institutes, businesses, financial institutions, civil society organizations, and extensive social media networks.
HS4A is based on the ideas, strategies and experience of the UN over the past 27 years since the publication of the first report on Human Security by UNDP in 1994 up to their second special report on New Threats to Human Security in the Anthropocene released in February 2022. Human Security addresses all the critical issues confronting the world today, including peace, human rights, inequality, health, food, education, jobs, safe communities and personal safety, energy, pollution, biodiversity and, of course, climate change.
WAAS has accepted this partnership because the approach adopted by the UN is very closely aligned with the work of the Academy over the past decade to forge transdisciplinary, integrated, human-centered perspectives and strategies to address pressing global challenges. HS4A is a natural extension of our earlier work with the UN on New Paradigm for Human Development and Global Leadership in the 21st Century. It is also closely aligned with the series of five international conferences calling for a new paradigm in education undertaken by WAAS and World University Consortium – the sixth of which is scheduled for January 2023 – and the conference on Basic Science and Sustainability held on September 20-22, 2022 at Belgrade in collaboration with UNESCO.
