CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES OF THE COMING DECADE
WAAS-NGIC-UNOG Special Sessions on
Global Leadership in the 21st Century
Baku – Dates TBA soon
Global leadership is urgently needed at this critical juncture in human affairs to prevent reversal of humanity’s most important gains since the end of the Cold War. The need for effective leadership strategies at the global level is one of the main themes of the 2020 Global Baku Forum (GBF) on "2020-2030: Challenges and Opportunities of the Coming Decade".
World Academy of Art & Science is partnering with NGIC and United Nations Office at Geneva to conduct special sessions at GBF 2020 on the theme Global Leadership in the 21st Century. The conclusions of this session will provide inputs for further discussions at the NGIC sponsored event at the UN Office in New York on September 22-23, 2020 parallel to the meeting of the UN General Assembly. Key findings and conclusions will also be presented at the conference organized at UN Office in Geneva on October 27-28, 2020, and a final report will be submitted to the UN following these events.
The Baku meeting will examine ways to revive and develop different types of leadership to address global challenges. It will explore strategies to enhance the effectiveness of international governmental organizations, member states, NGOs, business organizations, national academies, universities, youth groups and other civil society organizations. The objective of the project is to develop leadership, generate awareness of unutilized global potentials, mobilize and direct global social energies and resources for practical application, strengthen the effectiveness and functioning of existing institutions, and release a broad-based social movement to transform the compelling challenges confronting humanity today into catalysts for rapid global social evolution.
